St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office hosts parade for 5-year-old with cystic fibrosis

Ava Thomas recently got a double lung transplant.

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office held a parade for a 5-year-old girl battling cystic fibrosis.

Ava Thomas recently got a double lung transplant. She could not attend any Mardi Gras celebrations this year — so the sheriff's office brought the celebrations to her home in Covington.

She recently spent almost a year in the hospital fighting for her life, according to the sheriff's office.

"When we heard she couldn’t attend Mardi Gras…. We brought Mardi Gras to her. The community came together, and our hearts are just pure mush this evening. Happy Mardi Gras, sweet girl. Thank you to our amazing community!"  the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.
