NEW ORLEANS — A number of trucks in The Krewe of Elks Orleans parade, the family truck parade that follows the Krewe of Rex on Mardi Gras Day, will be banned after allegedly giving out throws past the end of the event.
Several of the trucks that rolled in the parade Tuesday afternoon will no longer be allowed to participate after they "...continually violated the rules and regulations of the EKO parade," according to a post from Brian Baye, the head of the New Orleans Elk Lodge #30.
Other trucks will receive a warning.
"Several trucks will be receiving Violation Letters as the city has sent me photographs of said trucks continuing to throw well past the disband area and being warned by NOPD to stop throwing," Baye wrote.
The Krewe of Elks Orleans parade was founded in 1935 by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks' New Orleans chapter. It's the oldest and largest of the Mardi Gras truck float parades, according to MardiGrasNewOrleans.com. It features 50 trucks that carry around 4,500 men, women and children riders.
"We take our parade very seriously as it is a reflection on our organization and members. Some of these trucks are an embarrassment to our parade and organization," Baye wrote.
"We strive to be one of the best parades the city has and it is a shame that the few has to ruin it for the vast majority who comply with our rules and want to provide a great time to the citizens and visitors to our great city," he wrote.
The number of trucks that will be banned was not immediately clear Wednesday. No further information was immediately available.
The Krewe of Elks Orleans begins at S. Claiborne Avenue at Napoleon Avenue. It rolls after the Krewe of Rex float parade and before the Krewe of Crescent City truck parade.
