NEW ORLEANS — The Krewe of Nefertiti announced Emmy- and Grammy-nominated singer Tarriona 'Tank' Ball of Tank and The Bangas as its Grand Marshal.
For carnival season this year, the krewe is celebrating families in New Orleans East with its Family Day Parade. Ball is a native of the city and a part of a three-time Grammy-nominated group that combines music styles of "fiery soul, deft, hip-hop, deep-drove R&B and subtle jazz."
The theme for the all-female parade is "Bloom Where You are Planted", a concept the krewe came up with to show Nefertiti's commitment to New Orleans East.
“This year’s Parade celebration will continue showcasing the beauty of New Orleans East, and the best of who we are as a community. “We are rooted in the soil of the New Orleans East community and are here to stay," said Zenia Smith, Krewe of Nefertiti Captain.
The parade will also show krewe's belief in the power of community.
“This will be a joyous celebration of community for the Krewe,” Smith said.
The parade is set to roll Sunday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.
