Full forecast ahead of Mardi Gras: Rain chances lower for Sunday parades

Only one half of one day between now and Mardi Gras is expected to be bad, but it's during one of Carnival's biggest parades.

NEW ORLEANS — What is the forecast for New Orleans' biggest week of Carnival parades? We have the answer.

Sunday brings a warm and humid feel along with scattered rain. It won't be a washout, but rain gear will likely be needed along parade routes in case of passing showers. There will be plenty of dry breaks. Late at night a cold front will move in, and as it approaches we may get a few stronger storms. Timing looks like around or after midnight.

Heavy rain should be finished by Monday morning, but a few showers could still be around early. We should dry out by midday. It will turn chilly and windy in the 50s Monday evening, so remember jackets or coats for nighttime parades.

Mardi Gras looks cool and beautiful. Expect a chilly and breezy morning in the 40s followed by a sunny and cool afternoon in the 50s.

Pleasant and partly cloudy weather continues Ash Wednesday and Thursday.

Sunday Rain Timeline

Morning: Mostly dry.

Afternoon: A few passing afternoon showers, a few rumbles of thunder around 2-3 PM. Plenty of dry breaks in between any passing showers, not a washout. Late morning/afternoon parades look good to roll. Krewe of Bacchus parade looks good to roll. Keep rain gear handy if you'll be on the route.

Night: Heavier batch of quick-moving rain and storms looks to move in closer to midnight into the early overnight hours Monday. All rain exits before sunrise Monday.
