Breaking down the changes in Metairie parades this year

With the exception of Mardi Gras Day, the parades will start at Bonnabel and end at Clearview.

METAIRIE, La. — Parades in Metairie are going to be a great time, but they’ve got some different routes and dates this year.

First – here’s when to mark your calendars.

Saturday at 5:00 p.m. is the Mystical Krewe of Mad Hatters.

There is no parade in Metairie on Super Bowl Sunday.

Next weekend, there is no parade on Saturday, but SundaY, the Krewe of Athena rolls at 5:30 P.M.

The Krewe of Atlas rolls right behind.

Metairie has a Lundi Gras parade this year. Centurions rolls at 6:30 p.m.

And Mardi Gras Day, Argus rolls at noon, which is two hours later than usual.

But there’s something you’ve got to know about the routes, too.

Krewes are now starting their routes on Bonnabel Boulevard and ending at Clearview, which is backwards from other years.

The exception to this is Argus, which will still start at Clearview and end at Veterans Boulevard and Martin Berhman Avenue.

With floats lining up on Bonnabel, if you live in Bucktown or the north part of Metairie, be aware that lineups could impact how you get home.

As always, to track the parades in real time and get a closer look at the routes and times, download our free WWL-TV parade tracker from your app store.

And, of course, Metairie is home to Family Gras on parading's first big weekend. It is being held Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11. Rick Springfield and Don Felder headline Saturday's entertainment while the Jacksons were the headliners Friday night.
