METAIRIE, La. – What are you going to do with all of those Carnival beads you caught? Well, if you have a sweet tooth, you can bring them to Krispy Kreme and get a dozen donuts and help out a good cause.

Between March 23 and March 25, Krispy Kreme in Metairie (825 Clearview Pkwy.) will collect beads for Arc of Greater New Orleans to recycle. Collection hours are between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.

If you bring 12 pounds of beads or more (they will be weighed) you can get a dozen glazed donuts or a coupon for a dozen glazed donuts to redeem at a future date.

Arc is a year-round operation where adults with disabilities or developmental delays work with volunteers to sort, band, repackage and sell the beads to Carnival riders for the coming year.

Arc Recycling Coordinator Margie Perez said this past Carnival season, Arc sold over 150,000 pounds of beads.
