SLIDELL, La. — Krewe of Titans is gearing up to roll through Slidell Friday night, but the rain may have other plans.
"We’re crossing our fingers. I was joking we got to start singing you novenas and lighting your candles because we’re going to roll," Toni Gebbia, President of the Krewe said.
Consistent rain throughout Thursday has put a pause on some of the loading. Plus, possible scattered showers on the Northshore Friday could put their parade at risk. City officials will ultimately make the decision, but Krewe members say if it were up to them, they'd let the good times roll.
"They’ve gone and got ponchos even the people on the lower deck. Everyone’s prepared we said we’ll even put on garbage bags if we have to," Gebbia said. "Everybody’s pretty much in good spirits they’re fairly certain we are going to roll tomorrow night we’re hoping it all pushes out of here."
Part of the reason they don't want to cancel is because they've fought hard to roll on Friday. Part of the fight played out at city council last month as councilmembers tried to address float accessibility.
Now, one day before the roll, they say while the weather isn't ideal, what's Carnival season without some rain.
"I don’t mind the rain at all. Get a little wet. It’s always been a theory of ours. If you live in southeast Louisiana and you haven’t gotten wet at a Mardi Gras parade, then you haven’t done Mardi Gras, right," Gebbia said. "This is the love of Mardi Gras."
