METAIRIE, La. — Family Gras in Jefferson Parish will run from Friday through to Sunday. Organizers say they're monitoring Saturday's rain closely.
Friday afternoon, with the sun shining, sound checks got underway, with some music fans staking out their spot.
Fans like Amy Reynolds get to Family Gras early to catch a glimpse of her favorite artist, no matter the weather. Reynolds told WWL Louisiana, "I am in love with Amy Grant. Love, love love her." She said she no matter rain, hail, or shine, she will come out to see Amy Grant perform.
Family Gras organizers say Saturday's rain is being closely monitored. Festival producer Greg Buisson, said, "We're going to ask to reschedule, obviously that will be the first choice if we can but that depends if they have another show after this, where they have to be, or what commitment some of the band members have."
He says this is the festival's 16th year, and there's something for everyone in 2024. "We were really excited about Cheap Trick and Amy Grant because they haven't because they haven't been here for such a long time," he said.
Along with the music, there's going to be plenty of food to choose from, food vendor Jay Nunnery said, "We're going to have cajun chicken crawfish burgers, fried chicken tenders, fired wings, seafood burgers and a delicious seafood potato with seafood sauce."
Nunnery said he's prepared for the rain, saying, "Cover everything up, secure it from being wet and damaged, and as soon as it stops, right back at it."
Ariana Giambrone, another food vendor said, "Well we're no strangers to rainy weather, last two Family Gras there has been a good bit of rain, and I will say, rain or shine we're here to serve you."
