Costumes fill French Quarter for Mardi Gras

NEW ORLEANS - It's a costume contest you'll never forget, and it happens in the heart of the French Quarter. The annual Bourbon Street Awards celebrated its 53rd year and did not disappoint.

Whether you came from out of town or from outer space, it's no alternative fact, Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street was lit.

"There's no place like New Orleans," said one participant.

From simple to extravagant (with maybe some pizza in between) wherever you looked there was no shortage of people being festive.

"If you're not out, you're missing out!"

A lot of creativity was seen in the Quarter, but it was the costumes at this year's Bourbon Street Awards that really stole the show.

"Today you're going to see some fabulous costumes," said Bianca Del Rio. "Are you ready to see some fabulous costumes?"

One by one, the contestants showed it off. The hosts may have felt some were better than others, but the crowd loved the show.

"This is our Mardi Gras, we're too old for float," one participant said.

However, competing or not, everyone Eyewitness News spoke with said they had a good time, making today a win for all.
