City to officially announce return of traditional Mardi Gras routes Monday

Mayor Cantrell, NOPD Interim Superintendent Michelle Woodfork and Sheriff Susan Huston will hold a joint press conference Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. to discuss.

NEW ORLEANS — While it has been known for sometime that Mardi Gras krewes will return to their traditional pre-pandemic routes, city officials will officially announce the return Monday afternoon at a Gallier Hall press conference.

Among the officials in attendance will be Mayor LaToya Cantrell, Sheriff Susan Huston, NOPD Interim Superintendent Michelle Woodfork, Councilman At-Large J.P. Morrell, Councilwoman Lesli Harris from District B, James Reiss of the Rex Organization and Elroy James of the Zulu Organization.

The plan this Carnival Season was for parades to be shortened once again this year due to ongoing manpower issues within the NOPD.

Carnival krewes in the city worked with the mayor’s office and Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson to bring in supplemental law enforcement officers to secure Mardi Gras parade routes.

The goal of 150 officers is expected to be exceeded.
