NEW ORLEANS — The Grammy's love continues for New Orleans native Jon Batiste. This is the fifth year he's received at least one nomination. This year he's nominated twice, in categories he's never been nominated before.
Both are for the intimate documentary "American Symphony", where Batiste learns his wife must undergo cancer treatment as he prepares for the performance of his career at Carnegie Hall.
One nomination is for Best Music Film and the other is for Best Song Written for Visual Media for "It Never Went Away."
That song was also nominated for an Oscar last year for Best Original Song. Jon Batiste now has a total of 22 Grammy nominations, with five wins.
Compare that to Beyoncé, who once again holds the record for the most Grammy nominations of all time with 94. She was tied with her husband, Jay-Z at 88.
Batiste also has a Primetime Emmy nomination, plus two Oscar nominations, one win and he won a Golden Globe Award.
Other local nominees include two Mardi Gras Indian Chiefs, as well as two live recordings from Jazz Fest. Lucky Daye's "Algorithm" is nominated for Best R&B Album and Tank and the Bangas are nominated for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album.
The awards show is coming up on Sunday, Feb. 2 on CBS.
