Dare to be scared! Here's what to do for Halloween in New Orleans

Halloween is just around the corner, and WWL Digital has put together a list of some frighteningly fun events for a hauntingly good time in New Orleans.

Halloween is just around the corner, and WWL Digital  has put together a list of some frighteningly fun events for a hauntingly good time the entire family can enjoy.

Oktoberfest 

FRIDAY, OCT. 13-SATURDAY, OCT.14

ADDITONAL DATES: OCT.20-OCT.21, OCT.27-OCT.28

The three-weekend event brings traditional German culture, live music, cuisine and activities for the family to enjoy, hosted along Bayou St. John across from City Park. Festival goers can experience daily performances by the Brats and featured musicians including jazz and swing artist Matt Tolentino, folk artist Johnny Koenig, and a special appearance by the 610 Stompers. 

There is even the 12th annual Oktoberfest Run & Walk presented by the New Orleans Track Club at the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots on Saturday, Oct. 14.

A children's corner will feature arts and crafts, kids' games with family-friendly music. Oktoberfest starts on Friday, at 4 p.m. and ends 11 p.m., and Saturdays 1 p.m.-11 p.m. Tickets are cash only, $10 and free for children under 12 years old.

Boo at the Zoo 

FRIDAY, OCT. 20-SUNDAY, OCT.22

Audubon Zoo brings spooky family fun for three days starting on Friday Oct.20 - Sunday Oct.22. Partnering with Children's Hospital New Orleans, the day time event includes a haunted house, themed photo opportunities, animal experiences, a maze, food trucks and more.

The event is from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. and tickets are $38.

Krewe of Boo Parade

SATURDAY, OCT. 21

It's that time of the year again for New Orleans' Official Halloween parade. On Saturday morning, Krewe of Boo kicks off with a two-mile Zombie Run through the Warehouse District. They encourage locals to come in costume wearing zombie makeup, looking like monsters, and wearing crazy bio-hazard suits. The run begins at 9 a.m. at Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and pre-register tickets are $25; tickets are $35 on the day of.

The parade rolls at 6 p.m. and is free to the public. Bring a bag to collect throws of candy, children's toys, light-up medallion beads and more. It begins at Elysian Fields in the Marigny, through the French Quarter and ends on Andrew Higgins Drive.

Treme Fall Fest 

SATURDAY, OCT. 21

The 8th annual festival celebrates the culture and history of Treme. Featuring a second line parade led by the TBC Brass Band, performances by Partners-N-Crime, Nayo Jones Experience, James Rivers Movement, The Rumble ft. Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr., and sounds by DJ Captain Charles.

Admission is free and open to the public. The event is from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and starts with the second line at 1210 Governor Nicholls.

Boo Carré Halloween Haunt 

SATURDAY, OCT. 21

The French Market will host an event for the family to enjoy, including kids' activities, live music, trick-or-treating in the French Market District along with a spooky second line with All for One Brass Brand.

Admission is free and open to the public. The event starts in Dutch Alley at 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Riverwalk Outlets Halloween Fest

SATURDAY, OCT. 21

Its second annual Halloween Fest, the Riverwalk celebrates with a free event open to the public. Inside of the food court there will be face painting, stilt walkers, trick-or-treating and more. In partnership with the Krewe of Boo, a second line will pass through for guest.

The event starts at 3 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m.

Trick or Treating at Fontainebleau State Park

SATURDAY, OCT. 21

ADDITIONAL DATE: SATURDAY, OCT. 28

Admission is free, parking is $3 for ages 4-61 and free for ages 62+ and 3 and under. The event is from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and is also on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Brews and Boos at City Park

FRIDAY, OCT.27

ADDITIONAL DATE: SATURDAY, OCT. 28

An adults-only event, the Halloween celebration will be at City Park held inside of the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park. It will feature unlimited rides, a costume test and beer of course. 

General admission is $35 and VIP tickets are $60. The event is also on Saturday, Oct. 28 and is from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m., tickets can be purchased here.

Candlelight: Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics

MULTIPLE DATES

Enjoy hearing your favorite spooky and Halloween themed songs a The Sazerac House with candles lighting the night. Popular songs such as Michael Jackson's Thriller, The Addams Family theme song and plenty others.

The event will feature a performance by Delachaise Ensemble String Quartet. Children must be 8 years old or older to attend.

Halloween Ghost Hunt in Jackson Square

END DATE: TUESDAY, OCT. 31

Head outdoors for a spine-tingling evening on a journey through the most haunted places in the city. A night of following clues, solving puzzles and learning terrifying ghost facts in Jackson Square on Halloween for all to enjoy.

The event ends on Tuesday, Oct. 31 and tickets can be purchased here.

New Orleans Halloween SK8 Massacre 

SATURDAY, OCT. 28

The Airline Skate Center is hosting spine-chilling skating night featuring a costume contest to win prizes and popular DJ's in the skate industry including native DJ MoneyMal, DJ Arson (The Fire Starter) and DJ E (The Trillest). It's open to all levels of skaters.

It starts at 11 p.m. and ends at 3 a.m., presale tickets are $15 and $20 cash only at the door.


New Orleans Nightmare Haunted House 

SATURDAY, OCT. 28

This event features three frightening post-apocalyptic attractions including the Deadlands, Repossessed and Midnight Mortuary Blood Ritual. Mini escape rooms and Halloween-themed bars are also featured.

A warning is advised for children 12 and under.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and ends on Halloween night. Learn more about the attractions and buy tickets here.

Boo Fest in Covington

SATURDAY, OCT. 28

This family is event is supporting children with disabilities for a day of fun at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. Featuring trick-or-treating, ghoulish games, photo booths and more.

Halloween at Lakeside Shopping Center

SUNDAY, OCT. 29

A fun and safe way to celebrate, families can visit Lakeside for trick-or-treating, train rides, family photos and pumpkin patch decorating. The event starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m.

JAMNOLA presents BOO-dat: Wicked Fun for the Whole Fam

MONDAY, OCT. 30

A family friendly event, JAMNOLA is hosting a Halloween celebration featuring spooky exhibits, face painting, and a professional photographer to take family photos. The event starts at 4 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m.

Halloween Balcony Party in the French Quarter

TUESDAY, OCT. 31

EARLIER DATE: SATURDAY, OCT. 28

Have fun on Halloween night at the Cornet Restaurant overlooking Bourbon Street. Enjoy an open bar and a bead-tossing to the crowds. The event kicks off at 11 p.m. and ends at 2 a.m.
