WWL-TV nabs 25 first place awards from Press Club of New Orleans

WWL-TV had wins in the Best Newscast, Best Weathercast, Best Sportscast and Best Web Site in the Press Club of New Orleans Awards announced Monday night.

NEW ORLEANS — WWL-TV hauled in 25 first place awards including several Best of the Best awards and wins in the Best Newscast, Best Weathercast, Best Sportscast and Best Web Site in the Press Club of New Orleans Awards announced Monday night.

David Hammer captured the best print reporting award for his “Disaster after Disaster” series with Richard Webster and he captured the best TV reporting award for his story about “Truancy and Crime” examining the possible effects of the city’s high truancy rate on the crime rate with juveniles. Hammer’s story was written in the aftermath of the dragging death of Linda Frickey. Four teens are facing trial in the case that was committed during school hours.

Hammer took in five first place awards and two Best of the Best.

Videographer Adam Copus received the President’s Videography Award for the best TV Videography for his piece about “Crawfish Delivery.” Copus captured four first place awards in addition to the President’s Award.

Meteorologist Payton Malone won for Best Weathercast, Producer Ian Kramar and Director Ben Arendt took home the award for Best Newscast; Ricardo Lecompte received the Best Sportscast and Best Sports Show honors. Doug Mouton and Adam Ney won for Best Sports Feature and Best Sports Special.

Great Day Host Malik Mingo was named Best On Air Talent, edging out Charisse Gibson, last year’s winner.

WWLTV’s Digital Team was honored with the awards for Best Website, Best Special Section and Best Use of Facebook.
