BATON ROUGE, La. — WWL-TV was honored by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters Friday for its coverage of the March tornado in Arabi in 2022.
The station’s coverage received the award for Breaking News Coverage.
WWL-TV interrupted programming and broadcast live coverage of the rare south Louisiana EF-3 tornado, which struck in parts of Orleans and St. Bernard parishes.
WWL-TV had on-air coverage as the severe weather moved through the area, collected user images and videos for its digital and on-air coverage and had reporters in Arabi talking to people just moments after the storm impacted their area.
A 25-year-old man was killed in Arabi and several homes suffered severe damage.
There were nearly 50 homes damaged in New Orleans East, near where a tornado had struck five years earlier.
