NEW ORLEANS — WWL Louisiana anchor Eric Paulsen revealed he has cancer on Wednesday. Paulsen has worked at the station for 47 years, making him the longest-tenured anchor in the region and one of the longest-serving in the country.
In a letter to the public, Paulsen said
“To my colleagues at Channel 4 and our viewers, I will be on medical leave for the next few months battling cancer. It’s fairly aggressive, but my doctors say it is treatable. And they are as confident as I am that I can and will beat this. I’m not a person who worries about a lot in life, and I've always been a fighter. This is a fight I don’t welcome, but I’m ready for this battle. My attitude is very positive, and I have a lot of support from family and friends, which means I will see you all soon.”
WWL News Director Nicole Waivers said, “Eric means so much to this station and this region. He’s served his community for decades. Now it’s our turn to support him.”
Eric was recently awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Press Club of New Orleans and honored by the New Orleans City Council for his years of service.
