NFL teams can begin their courtship of Drew Brees, if the Saints’ star and his agent are willing to listen.
The NFL’s “legal tampering period” kicks off Monday, March 12, at 11 a.m. CST. That means teams can reach out to Brees' agent -- but not the player directly -- to negotiate a contract.
Brees has said repeatedly that he wants to stay with the Saints. Head Coach Sean Payton and General Manager Mickey Loomis have both said they want him to stay as well, but for some reason the two sides haven’t made a deal.
Until Brees signs on the dotted line, he’s fair game for other teams.
The Saints’ QB will be the best free agents quarterback available, so who wouldn’t want him?
The biggest name being thrown around by reporters and analysts is the Minnesota Vikings. They went from having three QBs last season to none this offseason. And they’re title contenders, having knocked off the Saints in the playoffs to make the NFC Championship Game.
Free agency begins on March 14, at 3 p.m. CST.
