Report: Saints restructure Drew Brees' contract, add $10.8 million in cap space

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the New Orleans Saints have restructured quarterback Drew Brees' contract to free up $10.8 million in salary cap space this year.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints have reportedly have a little more breathing room.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the New Orleans Saints have restructured quarterback Drew Brees' contract to free up $10.8 million in salary cap space this year. Pelissero's report cited a "source informed on the move."

The report says the Saints had only $4.9 million in cap space to maneuver before Brees' contract was restructured.

The extra cap space could be used to offer more money to backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater who has not yet decided to stay in New Orleans. Bridgewater, who is from Miami, reportedly met with the Miami Dolphins who recently parted ways with Ryan Tannehill.

In other moves: former Minnesota Vikings running back Latavius Murray is now a Saint. Mark Ingram is leaving New Orleans after signing a three-year, $15 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
