NEW ORLEANS -- A story that could’ve ended on a sour note ended on an upbeat one Monday when the Preservation Hall Jazz Band announced its missing Sousaphone was returned.
The band said it was able to get the instrument back through an anonymous tip.
“I want to thank everyone near and far for the overwhelming show of support! As you can imagine, the horn’s signature lettering had been removed and it suffered a little damage, but nothing a bit of tender loving repair can’t remedy” Preservation Hall Creative Director and tuba player Ben Jaffe wrote in announcing the horn’s return.
The instrument, with the band’s name painted in black letters, went missing the night of Feb. 24 after a performance at the New Orleans Airlift organization's Music Box Village in the upper 9th Ward.
