Two-alarm fire leaves 5 without homes in St. Claude

According to the New Orleans Fire Department, the fire was reported around 1:50 a.m. Friday in the 3900 block of St. Claude Avenue.

Firefighters are trying to determine what caused a two-alarm fire in the St. Claude neighborhood early Friday morning that left 5 people without homes and an elderly man injured.

According to the New Orleans Fire Department, the fire was reported around 1:50 a.m. Friday in the 3900 block of St. Claude Avenue. First responders arriving at the scene found two apartments engulfed in flames.

Due to windy conditions, the flames spread to a nearby building on Alvar Street. A second alarm was called at 1:58 a.m. to search for any residents.

NOFD says an elderly man was taken to the hospital for observation. Two other elderly residents who had just completed renovations on their home escaped unharmed.

No other injuries were reported. The fire was determined to be under control by 2:31 a.m.
