NEW ORLEANS — A building under renovation and next door to Touro Infirmary erupted into a 2-alarm blaze on Saturday.
The New Orleans Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire at 1401 Delachaise St. The first NOFD company arrived on the scene at 7:37 a.m., and found the wood-framed, multi-floor property on fire with smoke emanating from the rear, upper-floor/roof area of the building.
Firefighters on the scene quickly called in a second alarm to help with the fire.
According to painting and finishing contractors on the scene, the commercial structure was in the process of being renovated and converted into a hotel.
The crew supervisor stated that they had just arrived on the scene a little before 7:30 a.m. After entering the building, they followed the smell of smoke to a crawl space between the third and fourth floor, locating the fire.
There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
