NEW ORLEANS -- Heat and humidity proved to be challenging factors as firefighters took on a blaze at an Uptown home early Saturday morning.
Officials with the New Orleans Fire Department said they got call shortly after 3 a.m. about a fire at a home in the 1800 block of General Pershing Street.
When they arrived, they found a three-story house with heavy smoke coming from the attic, and called a second-alarm at 3:39 a.m.
Firefighters said they main priority was getting residents out of the home, which they were able to safely do. Authorities said there were three separate apartments in the home, and 12 people lived at the residence.
Officials said the size of the home, along with strong winds made the fire a challenge. After fighting the flames for almost an hour, a third alarm was called at 4:09 a.m.
About 60 firefighters fought the blaze until it was under control at 5:11 a.m.
Authorities said no one was injured in the fire, and the cause is still under investigation.
