NEW ORLEANS – Crews responded to a fire in New Orleans East on Sunday afternoon.
The fire occurred around 5 p.m. in the 6200 block of Chef Menteur Highway.
Tires were on fire at the location, the New Orleans Fire Department confirmed to Eyewitness News.
Thick clouds of black smoke were be seen in the area.
The fire was mostly extinguished by 6 p.m. and some firefighters remained on scene to put out hot spots. The area appears to be an illegal dumping site.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
